Show Synopsis: “Do you want to fall in love tonight?
Immerse yourself in the fantasy of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ as you are escorted into the carnivalesque saturnalia of the world of the fairies to be seduced by Oberon, assist the Mechanicals to fix their play, help Puck create mischief, and find your soulmate.
Slumber Here won Spirit of the Fringe and Honourable Mention for Artistic Risk at the 2017 Vancouver Fringe Festival.”
All actors must be comfortable with improvisation, Shakespeare, movement, and intimacy with fellow actors as well as creating intimacy with strangers.
‘The Tragedy of Pyramus and Thisbe’ and the rest of the Mechanicals’ repertoire will be free to watch by any member of the public that happens by.
The entire production is two hours long (two one-hour loops) and completely immersive for the audience.
We seek a diverse company of actors of any background, and any gender identity.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW AND DO….
Please sign up for a time slot HERE:
(NOTE: NO MORE THAN SIX ACTORS PER TIME SLOT PLEASE!!! And please do write down your time.)
We are looking for people who can breathe contemporary, conversational life into Elizabethan text in a way that will feel comfortable for an audience who has not explored Shakespeare before. We are looking for actors who can seem genuine and ‘real’ rather than stage-y. We are hoping our actors will make connections with the audience that feel genuine.
For the fairy court and for Puck, we are looking for advanced movers/dancers and/or magicians.
And come prepared…
…to cold-read a Shakespearean sonnet. You’ll have at least five minutes to prepare, but if you come earlier you’ll be given more time. As much as you’d like!
…to tell us a story about yourself. Not a prepared monologue, but just tell us any two-three minute personal story you’d like.
…with movement clothes. At the end of every half-hour audition block, the auditioners will come together to improvise as a group.
…with your resume and headshot. Please note: we are seeking experienced performers for this show!
…Bonus points if you can play an acoustic instrument and bring it to demonstrate.
And please be at least five minutes early so we can start right on time. 🙂
This is a non-Equity production, but every cast member is guaranteed an honourarium of 250.00.
• Rehearsal Schedule begins in April, days and times TBA after the play has been cast.
